DJI has not announced a DJI Neo 3, but a September 15 packaging leak attributed to established DJI leaker Igor Bogdanov is the strongest evidence yet that a third-generation Neo is in development. The retail-style box appears to use the Neo 3 name and shows a Fly More configuration with a compact controller labelled DJI RC Mini. The drone artwork also appears to show redesigned propeller guards, extra rear ventilation and an additional top-mounted module. What the image does not reveal is equally important: camera sensor, weight, battery, flight time, transmission range, price and release date all remain unknown.

What exactly leaked on September 15?

The source trail appears to lead back to Igor Bogdanov’s @Quadro_News account. Secondary coverage reproduces or describes a retail-style package carrying the Neo 3 name, a Fly More Combo label and a small screen-equipped controller identified as DJI RC Mini. One secondary reading of the box also reports a red “NOT FOR SALE” marking, which would be consistent with sample or pre-release packaging.

That marking should not be overinterpreted. A sample label can indicate late-stage material or review/distribution preparation, but it does not establish that influencer reviews have shipped, that production is final or that an announcement is days away.

Retail packaging is stronger evidence—but it is not an announcement

A retail-style box is more persuasive than an anonymous spreadsheet or a free-floating render because packaging usually reflects a product name, bundle strategy and final-ish industrial design. It can still be pre-production material, regional packaging, a sample carton or even a sophisticated fabrication. Until DJI publishes a product page or announcement, the correct status remains credible leak.

That still is not the same as an official naming announcement. Product branding can change before release, especially on internal or sample packaging.

A Fly More Combo could introduce DJI RC Mini

The second major clue is the controller. The box appears to pair Neo 3 with a compact vertical remote called DJI RC Mini. A built-in display is visible, which could reduce phone dependence compared with a traditional phone-clamp controller.

That could be a meaningful travel advantage if the controller reaches retail: a small integrated-screen remote would let users carry drone and controller without mounting a phone for every flight. But screen usability, battery life, transmission system, port layout, software and compatibility are not established by the packaging photograph.

What has changed in the DJI Neo 3 design?

Notebookcheck’s visual reading points to three obvious differences: reworked propeller guards, more rear ventilation and a new top-mounted component. These are useful observations because they are visible features rather than inferred specifications.

They do not tell us why DJI changed the design. Different guard geometry could affect stiffness, airflow, acoustics, weight or manufacturing, while extra vents could correspond to changed thermal needs. Those are engineering possibilities—not confirmed improvements.

The revised propeller guards are clearly visible

The leaked drone appears to use a more pronounced hub-and-spoke structure around the propeller protection. The Neo family’s enclosed-guard concept is central to its beginner and close-proximity positioning, so any structural redesign is noteworthy.

FrediTech should not claim the new guards are safer, lighter or more impact-resistant without testing. Even small changes to ribs, motor position or airflow can trade rigidity against weight, noise and aerodynamic efficiency.

Extra rear vents hint at internal changes—but we do not know what changed

Additional ventilation openings appear at the rear of the leaked aircraft. They could indicate a revised cooling path or a change in internal component layout.

Ventilation alone cannot establish a faster processor, larger battery, higher video resolution or hotter-running radio system. The only defensible statement is that the exterior cooling/vent pattern appears different.

What is the apparent top-mounted sensor?

DJI RC Mini could be the bigger story

Neo drones are built around portability, quick capture and multiple control options. A genuinely small controller with an integrated screen could change that experience more than a modest airframe revision, particularly for travelers who do not want to dedicate their phone to flight control.

It could also make a premium Fly More package easier to understand: batteries, charger/hub, drone and one compact screen controller in a small travel kit. That value proposition still depends on the controller’s screen quality, range, runtime, firmware, device support and price.

Do not confuse RC Mini with DJI RC Mini AG

Where the 1.97-inch and 800-nit numbers actually come from

DJI’s agriculture documentation identifies the existing RC Mini AG as model TKMI1. DJI-derived reporting gives its display as 1.97 inches at 410×494 pixels and up to 800 cd/m², with about three hours of built-in battery endurance. The agricultural controller also uses O4 transmission in supported configurations.

Those specifications are valuable because they explain why analysts see a resemblance. They do not prove the leaked consumer controller uses the same panel, battery, transmission power, operating software or compatibility list.

Could a built-in-screen controller change the Neo experience?

Potentially. One of the Neo line’s strengths is that it can be flown in lightweight configurations without a conventional controller, while more advanced users can add remotes and goggles. A small dedicated screen controller could create a middle ground: more direct control than phone-only operation without the bulk of a large smart controller.

The most important unanswered question is compatibility. The leak only suggests a Neo 3 bundle relationship. It does not establish whether RC Mini would work with Neo, Neo 2, Mini-series drones or future aircraft.

DJI Neo 3 vs Neo 2: What we can compare today

The table makes the uncertainty obvious. DJI’s current Neo 2 has a well-documented 151g weight, 12MP 1/2-inch sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 4K/60fps recording, 4K/100fps slow motion, 2.7K vertical video, two-axis gimbal, 19-minute maximum flight time, omnidirectional sensing, forward LiDAR, downward infrared sensing, 49GB of storage and O4 video transmission in compatible configurations. None of those figures should be copied into a Neo 3 column.

Camera specifications remain completely open

The packaging does not provide a credible Neo 3 camera specification. Sensor size, megapixel count, aperture, gimbal axes, maximum frame rates, HDR, vertical-video implementation, bitrate and color profiles all remain unknown.

Rumor sites may propose 1/2-inch, 1/1.3-inch or larger sensors. FrediTech should not repeat those numbers in the SEO title, meta description or spec table unless stronger evidence appears. The honest current camera specification is simply not revealed.

Flight time, weight and battery are still unknown

DJI’s current Neo 2 weighs 151g and is rated for up to 19 minutes of flight, but those figures belong only to Neo 2. Neo 3 could be lighter, heavier or unchanged; its battery could be larger or simply packaged differently.

Weight deserves special care because drone rules can change around weight classes. FrediTech should not publish “under 250g” or “sub-150g” for Neo 3 until DJI or a trustworthy regulatory filing supplies the actual takeoff weight.

DJI Neo 3 price and release date remain unknown

DJI’s UK store currently lists Neo 2 from £209, with the Neo 2 Fly More Combo at £349. Those are useful current-generation prices for buyers, not a Neo 3 forecast.

Packaging evidence often appears relatively late in a product cycle, but a box does not tell us whether launch is next week, next month or later. Predictions such as October, November or holiday 2026 remain speculation unless supported by DJI event material or regulatory evidence.

Could DJI announce Neo 3 soon?

The leak appears to show a relatively mature product stage because it depicts retail-style branding and a named bundle. That raises the probability that DJI has moved beyond early prototyping, but FrediTech should stop there.
