Polestar has put a conventional rear window back into the Polestar 4 formula.
The original coupé-style Polestar 4 became famous partly because it deleted the rear glass and replaced the optical mirror view with a roof-mounted camera feed. The new Polestar 4 SUV, announced on September 2, 2026, takes a more conventional route: it gets a real heated rear window, rear wiper and washer, a standard conventional mirror, a straighter roofline and more luggage space.
German pricing starts at €57,900 Rear Motor, €65,900 Dual Motor, and €76,300 with Performance Pack. Polestar quotes up to 630km WLTP for Rear Motor and 600km for Dual Motor, with a 100kWh battery and 200kW peak DC charging. The real choice is whether the SUV’s practicality and physical rear visibility matter more than the coupé’s lower roofline and digital-rear-view concept. This is a launch analysis, not a road-test review.

Prices: Rear Motor, Dual Motor and Performance Pack
Germany is the cleanest euro-price reference at launch:
| Configuration | Price | Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Rear Motor | €57,900 | — |
| Dual Motor | €65,900 | +€8,000 |
| Dual Motor with Performance Pack | €76,300 | +€10,400 vs Dual |
| Performance configuration vs Rear | €76,300 | +€18,400 |
These are German base prices including VAT but excluding handover fees.
The €76,300 figure is the total starting vehicle price, not the cost of the Performance Pack by itself.
The Performance Pack adds specially tuned active ZF dampers, a Polestar Engineered chassis, 22-inch forged Performance wheels, Pirelli P Zero tyres and larger Brembo brakes with Swedish-gold callipers.
For most buyers, the price-value decision is therefore Rear Motor versus Dual Motor. The Performance version is a chassis-and-braking upgrade aimed at enthusiasts rather than maximum-range family buyers.

Why the Rear Window Matters
The original Polestar 4 coupé has no conventional rear window. Instead, a roof-mounted camera sends a wide-angle image to an 8.9-inch digital rear-view display. That system can remain useful even when rear passengers or luggage would block a traditional mirror.
The SUV restores a heated curved rear window with an integrated wiper and washer and supplies a conventional optical rear-view mirror as standard.
Importantly, Polestar has not abandoned the digital concept. A digital inner mirror remains available as an option on the SUV in supported configurations.
That gives the SUV a more flexible visibility setup:
- Drivers who prefer familiar optical rear vision can use the glass and normal mirror.
- Buyers who frequently load the boot to roof height can still choose the digital mirror.
- The rear wiper/washer reduces dependence on an exposed camera alone in dirty winter or wet-road conditions.
- Camera visibility can still be useful when passengers or cargo block the conventional sightline.
Pillars, headrests and cargo can still restrict visibility, but the SUV gives buyers a choice the coupé intentionally removed.
SUV vs Coupé: The Practical Differences Are Real
The new SUV is not simply an original Polestar 4 with generic glass inserted into the rear panel.
Both versions are 4,840mm long, 2,999mm in wheelbase and the same width. The SUV is taller at 1,556mm versus 1,534mm, a 22mm increase. Polestar also says rear-seat headroom improves by 2.5cm.
Cargo changes more meaningfully:
| Practicality | Polestar 4 SUV | Polestar 4 Coupé |
|---|---|---|
| Physical rear window | Yes | No |
| Cargo to rear seatbacks | 530L | 526L |
| Cargo to inner roof | 655L | 526L-style published volume basis differs |
| Seats folded | 1,665L | 1,536L |
| Frunk | 15L | 15L |
| Roof rails | Standard | Coupé-specific configuration differs |
| Dynamic roof load | 100kg | Check local specification |
Polestar’s support documentation says the SUV offers about 30L more cargo when measured to the top of the rear seatbacks under its comparison method and 129L more when measured to the inner roof. The largest difference is with the seats folded: 1,665L versus 1,536L.
In Germany the SUV also launches cheaper than the updated coupé. The coupé currently starts at €61,900 Rear Motor and €69,900 Dual Motor, versus €57,900 and €65,900 for the SUV.
That strengthens the SUV’s value case as well as its practicality.
Rear Motor vs Dual Motor: Which Is Better Value?
Rear Motor: likely the range-and-value sweet spot
Rear Motor produces 200kW (272hp) and 343Nm, driving the rear wheels. Polestar quotes 0–100km/h in 7.3 seconds, a 200km/h top speed and 630km WLTP.
It is also lighter at 2,265kg and rated for 17.8kWh/100km WLTP consumption.
For buyers who do not need AWD, it is the obvious starting point: lowest price, longest official range and enough performance for normal European motorway use.
Dual Motor: pay €8,000 for AWD and much stronger acceleration
Dual Motor doubles maximum output to 400kW (544hp) and torque to 686Nm. It accelerates from 0–100km/h in 3.9 seconds and adds all-wheel drive.
Polestar uses a front-motor disconnect system so the car can reduce unnecessary AWD losses when conditions allow. Even so, maximum WLTP range falls from 630 to 600km.
That is only a 30km difference, or about 4.8% less maximum WLTP range, in exchange for far stronger acceleration and AWD traction.
The €8,000 premium suits buyers who value performance or frequent wet/snow traction; efficiency-first drivers will find Rear Motor easier to justify.
What 630km WLTP Really Means

WLTP is the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure, a standardized laboratory-style comparison method used across Europe.
It is useful for comparing EVs under similar conditions. It is not a promise of 630km at German Autobahn speed, in winter or with a full family and roof box.
Real range will depend on:
- motorway speed;
- outside temperature;
- heating and climate use;
- wheel and tyre choice;
- payload;
- elevation;
- wind;
- wet roads;
- battery temperature.
Polestar itself notes that certified WLTP is normally not achievable as an exact real-world result.
The SUV is too new for a responsible independent 120–130km/h motorway-range figure, so road-trip buyers should wait for measured tests.
For broader EV range context, see FrediTech’s Volkswagen ID.4 review and range guide and 2026 BMW i4 range and charging analysis.
Battery and 200kW DC Charging
Every launch version uses a 100kWh, 400V lithium-ion cell-to-pack battery with 110 cells. Polestar has not exposed a separate usable-capacity figure or cell supplier in the public SUV specification reviewed by FrediTech, so those details should not be guessed.
Maximum DC charging is 200kW, with Polestar quoting 30 minutes from 10–80%.
Peak power is only part of the charging story: battery temperature, starting charge level, charger capability and the charging curve determine the real stop.
The SUV includes an energy-saving heat pump and route-planning ecosystem through Android Automotive with Google built in. Plug & Charge is supported on compatible ISO 15118 chargers after initial setup.
FrediTech’s Chevrolet Blazer EV charging guide explains why peak charging power should not be judged in isolation.
22kW AC Is Market Specific
This is one of the easiest specifications to misreport.
In Germany, Polestar lists 11kW AC as standard and 22kW as a standalone option. With 11kW, Polestar quotes about 11 hours from 0–100%; with the 22kW option, about 5.5 hours.
Polestar’s launch note says the UK, Ireland, South Korea and Canada are limited to 11kW AC.
UK buyers: do not expect the German 22kW option
The UK specification lists:
- 11kW AC;
- about 11 hours 0–100%;
- no 22kW SUV option on the current UK technical page.
That matters because a continental European review can make 22kW look universal. Even where offered, a home still needs the appropriate electrical supply and compatible wallbox.
V2L: 3.3kW, But Not Necessarily Ready at Delivery
Vehicle-to-Load lets the high-voltage traction battery supply power to external electrical devices.
Polestar says the system can provide up to 3.3kW at 230V, 16A single phase through an approved adapter sold separately.
Potential uses include camping equipment, laptops, lighting, power tools and small appliances within the approved combined load. However, Polestar’s launch notes state that V2L and Camping Mode will become available through a future software update.
That means buyers should not assume the feature will work on day one when early Q4 cars arrive. Adapter pricing was not confirmed in the public launch material checked.
Do not buy a generic third-party V2L adapter based only on plug shape. Use the Polestar-approved accessory once compatibility and availability are confirmed.
Interior, Technology and Family Use
The SUV keeps the Polestar 4’s 15.4-inch landscape centre display and 10.2-inch driver screen. It runs Android Automotive with Google built in and adds Google Gemini in supported markets. Wireless Apple CarPlay is listed.
The cabin also gets the larger rear glasshouse and 2.5cm of additional rear headroom. Optional features include the digital inner mirror, electrochromic panoramic roof, 21-inch wheels, Nappa leather and upgraded Harman Kardon audio.
A heat pump is standard, and the SUV offers electrically reclining rear seatbacks with the Plus Pack.
Towing is rated at up to 1,500kg Rear Motor and 2,000kg Dual Motor, while roof rails are rated for 100kg dynamic / 300kg static load.
For family buyers, those numbers may matter more than acceleration.
Warranty and Service
German Polestar documentation lists:
- 3 years / 100,000km vehicle warranty;
- 8 years / 160,000km battery warranty;
- battery repair/replacement if State of Health drops below 70% during that battery-warranty period;
- 12-year corrosion warranty;
- 3 years of roadside assistance.
UK terms are equivalent in time but expressed as 60,000 miles for the vehicle and 100,000 miles for the battery.
Polestar says its Volvo Cars service collaboration gives European owners access to hundreds of service points.
How It Compares With Current European Rivals
| EV | Germany price reference | Max WLTP reference | Max DC | Key difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polestar 4 SUV Rear | €57,900 | 630km | 200kW | Rear window, premium cabin |
| Polestar 4 SUV Dual | €65,900 | 600km | 200kW | 544hp AWD |
| Polestar 3 Rear | €78,900 | 603km | Higher-price class | Larger premium SUV |
| Audi Q6 SUV e-tron | €63,500 | 661km | 270kW | Faster 800V-class charging |
| Tesla Model Y RWD | About €38,970 current German price | Variant dependent | Tesla network | Lower entry price |
The Audi Q6 e-tron starts at €63,500 in Germany, quotes up to 661km WLTP and about 21 minutes for 10–80% at up to 270kW. Tesla’s Model Y is much cheaper at entry level, while long-range Premium variants can reach around 622km WLTP and benefit from the Supercharger ecosystem. Polestar’s pitch is therefore the combination of premium design, useful cargo capacity, conventional rear visibility and competitive pricing rather than class-leading charging speed.
Is the Polestar 4 SUV Coming to the US?
The status has moved beyond complete uncertainty.
Polestar’s US SUV page now describes the Polestar 4 SUV as a new variant available later this year. However, FrediTech did not find a confirmed US MSRP or exact customer-delivery date.
So the responsible wording is:
US availability is planned for later in 2026, but pricing and precise timing remain unconfirmed.
Do not convert the €57,900 German price into dollars and present it as US pricing.
Production and Deliveries
Polestar says all Polestar 4 SUVs are built in Busan, South Korea. Production started in Q2 2026.
First customer deliveries are planned for Q4 2026. Regional delivery dates can differ, so buyers should treat Q4 as a launch window rather than a guaranteed month.
FrediTech Early Take
Best value on paper: Rear Motor at €57,900.
Best performance/all-weather option: Dual Motor if AWD and 3.9-second acceleration justify €8,000 more.
Most important design change: The physical rear window plus conventional mirror.
Best practicality gain: 1,665L maximum rear cargo with seats folded and more rear headroom.
Biggest regional complication: 22kW AC is optional/market-specific, while UK and Ireland are limited to 11kW.
Most interesting future feature: 3.3kW V2L.
Biggest caveat: V2L depends on a future software update and separate adapter.
What Independent Testing Still Needs to Verify
- 120–130km/h motorway range.
- Winter efficiency and heat-pump performance.
- Full DC charging curve and average 10–80% power.
- Rear-window visibility in rain, dirt and snow.
- Ride comfort on 20-, 21- and 22-inch wheels.
- Noise levels versus the coupé.
- Real cargo usability despite the larger published volume.
- Software stability and V2L behavior after rollout.
